Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Delhi – First impressions of India’s capital

On arrival at Delhi airport or railway station, you will be greeted by our representative and your private driver, who will assist you with your luggage and transfer you to the hotel. After check-in, take some time to rest and recover from your journey.

Depending on your arrival time and energy level, you can either relax at the hotel or enjoy a light introductory drive around New Delhi. This is a good way to get a feel for the city without rushing straight into a full sightseeing day.

  • • Suggested evening drive: Pass by India Gate, the war memorial arch; see the illuminated government buildings around Raisina Hill; and experience the broad avenues of New Delhi designed by the British architect Edwin Lutyens.
  • • Optional: A gentle walk or a coffee stop in Connaught Place, Delhi’s colonial-era commercial district with its circular colonnades and shops.

This first evening is intentionally kept flexible so that you can adjust to the time zone and climate. Your driver will be available if you wish to go out for dinner at a nearby restaurant, or you can dine at the hotel and rest.

  • • Driving: Airport to hotel approx 30–60 minutes, plus optional evening drive.
  • • Overnight: Delhi hotel.

Day 2: Delhi – Old and New Delhi sightseeing

After breakfast, you begin a full day exploring both Old Delhi and New Delhi with a local English-speaking guide. This day helps you understand the layers of history that have shaped India’s capital over many centuries.

In Old Delhi, once the Mughal capital of Shahjahanabad, narrow lanes, bustling bazaars and old havelis give a glimpse into traditional city life.

  • • Visit Jama Masjid, one of the largest mosques in India, built by Emperor Shah Jahan in the 17th century. From the courtyard, you can enjoy panoramic views of Old Delhi’s rooftops.
  • • Experience a rickshaw ride through Chandni Chowk, where spice shops, jewellers and street food stalls line the crowded alleys. This is often a highlight of the day and offers wonderful photo opportunities.
  • • Drive past the Red Fort for photos from the outside and listen to the stories of Mughal emperors who once ruled from here.

Later, you move into New Delhi, with its wider roads, parks and grand government buildings.

  • • Visit Raj Ghat, the peaceful memorial to Mahatma Gandhi, set by the Yamuna River.
  • • Continue to Humayun’s Tomb, a beautiful 16th-century garden tomb that inspired the architecture of the Taj Mahal.
  • • Explore Qutub Minar, a tall victory tower surrounded by an impressive complex of early Indo-Islamic architecture.

At the end of the day, your driver will take you back to the hotel. If you still have energy, you can explore a local market or try a traditional North Indian dinner.

  • • Driving: Several short city transfers, 20–30 minutes between major sites depending on traffic.
  • • Overnight: Delhi hotel.

Day 3: Delhi to Agra – The journey to the Taj Mahal

This morning, check out after breakfast and drive to Agra via the modern expressway, which offers a smoother and faster journey compared to older routes. You will see the landscape gradually change from urban Delhi to small towns and fields along the way.

On arrival in Agra, check into your hotel and take a short break. In the afternoon, you meet your local guide for a first look at the Mughal city.

  • • Visit Agra Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and former residence of the Mughal emperors. Inside its red sandstone walls, you can see palaces, courtyards and pavilions that blend Persian and Indian styles. Many travellers enjoy the view of the Taj Mahal from certain points inside the fort.
  • • If time and light conditions allow, you may visit Mehtab Bagh or another viewpoint across the Yamuna River for a beautiful sunset perspective of the Taj Mahal without the crowds at the main gate.

During the evening, you can stroll in a local market, visit a marble inlay workshop to learn how the intricate pietra dura work of the Taj Mahal is created, or simply rest at the hotel to be fresh for the next day’s sunrise visit.

  • • Driving: Delhi – Agra approx 210 km / 4–5 hours, plus local transfers.
  • • Overnight: Agra hotel.

Day 4: Agra – Taj Mahal at sunrise, Fatehpur Sikri – Drive to Jaipur

Today is often the most memorable morning of the trip. Before sunrise, your driver will take you to the Taj Mahal, where you meet your guide and join the early visitors entering the complex.

Seeing the Taj Mahal in the soft pink and golden light of dawn, before the heat and larger crowds of the day, is a truly special experience. Your guide will explain the love story of Emperor Shah Jahan and Mumtaz Mahal, the architectural symbolism of the monument, and the intricate marble work and calligraphy that decorate it.

After spending ample time inside the complex, you return to the hotel for breakfast and check-out. Then you begin the drive towards Jaipur, with an important stop on the way:

  • • En-route visit to Fatehpur Sikri, the deserted Mughal capital built by Emperor Akbar in the 16th century. You explore the red sandstone palaces, courtyards and audience halls, as well as the impressive Buland Darwaza and Jama Masjid. The site offers plenty of opportunities for photography and insight into Mughal history.

Continue by road through the Rajasthan countryside towards Jaipur, passing through small towns, roadside markets and agricultural land. Short tea or snack breaks can be taken along the way as you prefer.

Arrive in Jaipur by late afternoon or early evening and check into your hotel. The rest of the evening is at leisure.

  • • Driving: Agra – Fatehpur Sikri – Jaipur approx 240–260 km / 5–6 hours including sightseeing stop.
  • • Overnight: Jaipur hotel.

Day 5: Jaipur – Forts, palaces and colourful bazaars

Jaipur, the Pink City, is known for its impressive forts and palaces, as well as its vibrant markets and royal heritage. After breakfast, meet your local guide and head out for a full day of sightseeing.

  • • Start with Amber Fort, located on a hill just outside the city. You drive up to the fort and explore its courtyards, mirror-work halls and royal apartments, learning about the Rajput kings who once ruled from here.
  • • On the way back towards the city, you may stop for photos at the Jal Mahal (Water Palace), situated in the middle of Man Sagar Lake.

Back in the city, continue your exploration:

  • • Visit the City Palace complex, where part of the palace is still used by the royal family of Jaipur. The museum areas display costumes, weapons and royal artefacts.
  • • Explore Jantar Mantar, the astronomical observatory built by Maharaja Jai Singh II, featuring large stone instruments that still accurately measure time and celestial positions.
  • • Stop at Hawa Mahal (Palace of Winds) for photographs from the outside and learn how the latticed windows allowed royal ladies to watch street life in privacy.

Later, you have time to explore Jaipur’s markets for textiles, jewellery, handicrafts and spices, or to relax in a café. Your driver can recommend reliable shops if you are interested in specific items.

  • • Driving: Local sightseeing within Jaipur, with several short transfers.
  • • Overnight: Jaipur hotel.

Day 6: Jaipur to Udaipur – Scenic drive through Rajasthan

After breakfast, check out and start your journey to Udaipur, often called the “City of Lakes” and one of India’s most romantic destinations. The drive takes you through rural Rajasthan with views of villages, fields and the Aravalli hills.

There is flexibility to stop along the way for tea, photos or lunch. In some itineraries, guests choose to add a brief stop at local temples or small towns en-route; this can be discussed with your driver based on your interests and timings.

On arrival in Udaipur, check in at your hotel. The rest of the day is free to relax after the long drive. If you wish, you can take a gentle evening walk around the old city lanes, visit a lakeside café, or simply enjoy the peaceful atmosphere from your hotel terrace.

  • • Driving: Jaipur – Udaipur approx 390–420 km / 6–7 hours depending on traffic and stops.
  • • Overnight: Udaipur hotel.

Day 7: Udaipur – Palaces, temples and lake views

After breakfast, meet your local guide for a full-day exploration of Udaipur. This charming city, surrounded by hills and lakes, has a softer, more relaxed feel than many larger Indian cities.

  • • Begin with the City Palace complex, a grand series of palaces overlooking Lake Pichola. Inside, you can see beautifully decorated rooms, courtyards and balconies, with intricate mirror work and glass mosaics.
  • • Visit Jagdish Temple, an active Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu, known for its carved pillars and lively atmosphere.
  • • Stroll through the gardens of Saheliyon-ki-Bari, a peaceful retreat with fountains, marble pavilions and lotus pools that was once a leisure garden for royal ladies.

In the afternoon, you have some free time to wander the old streets, browse for miniature paintings and handicrafts, or relax at a café overlooking the lake. Udaipur is also known for evening cultural shows featuring traditional Rajasthani music, dance and puppetry, which can be arranged on request.

Towards sunset, enjoy a shared boat ride on Lake Pichola (subject to water level and weather). From the water, you get lovely views of the City Palace, lakeside havelis and island palaces, making it a perfect way to close your Rajasthan journey.

  • • Driving: Short local transfers within Udaipur city.
  • • Overnight: Udaipur hotel.

Day 8: Udaipur – Departure or onward journey

After breakfast, free time until check-out. Depending on your flight or onward travel schedule, you may have a little time for last-minute shopping or a final walk by the lake.

Your driver will then transfer you to Udaipur airport for your flight, or arrange a drive / further connections to Delhi or another city as per your customised plan.

Your 8-day journey through Delhi, Agra, Jaipur and Udaipur ends with rich memories of India’s history, architecture, culture and hospitality.
